Exercise and Fitness Options in Gloucester

We know when you come to the Inn at Warner Hall, you’re here to unwind, relax, recharge. For a lot of us, though, part of that includes breaking a sweat. Chances are, as much as you want to lounge in the hammock or sleep in a deck chair down at the boathouse, you’ll likely want to also make sure you get in your daily exercise, even while on vacation.

Around Warner Hall itself, you’ll find bikes, a 10K loop for runners and walkers, kayaks and canoes to take out into the Severn River and enough meadow land to wander through for hours. But if you want to find a gym or other hiking spot to get out and get moving, look here for some local options.

Beaverdam Park: Gloucester’s largest park, located just outside of the village, offers endless activities and opportunities for exercise and recreation. The 635-acre freshwater lake is not only great for fishing, but also provides a beautiful and safe backdrop to exercise the upper body in your kayak or canoe. Paddle boats and canoes are available for rent. Not into the water? With nearly 10 miles of trails along the reservoir and beautiful woodlands, there is ample space for hikers, joggers and cyclists. Beaverdam Park is also a geocaching site. Visit: 8687 Roaring Springs Road, Gloucester. 804-693-2107.

CrossFit Gloucester: Calling all CrossFit-ers! Great news. We have a Box about five minutes from Warner Hall. Look to owners Bill and Emily Strack for your workout of the day. Visit: 4924 George Washington Memorial Highway, Hayes. 757-869-0155.

Tidewater Performance: A branch of Tidewater Physical Therapy, the Tidewater Performance Center is part of an 8,000 square foot building that bridges together clinicians with degreed and certified personal trainers. They offer total body conditioning group classes, semi private and private training. They are located about 10 minutes from Warner Hall. Visit: 6970 Fox Hunt Lane, Gloucester. 804-210-1343.

Riverside Wellness and Fitness Center: This health system owned gym offers a variety of cardiovascular and strength-training systems, group exercise classes, classrooms, racquet ball courts, an indoor pool, volleyball and basketball court and more.Visit: 7516 Hospital Drive, Gloucester. 804-693-8888.
