Stay at Warner Hall, Explore Yorktown

A stay at Warner Hall is getaway within itself. It’s a feeling, a place, a disconnection from life we’ve worked hard to create. From bird watching, hiking, kayaking, fishing, chess, biking, and more, you are sure to be kept entertained…or relaxed.

However, The Inn and the plantation grounds surrounding the manor house isn’t the only great spot you’ll have the chance to experience during your stay. Wonderful shopping, historical battlefields, and museums surround us, so please take a day to visit these gems in Yorktown near Warner Hall.

Just over the Coleman Bridge (about 20 minutes away), The Watermen’s Museum tells the not often heard story of the role Chesapeake Bay Watermen played in forming our great nation from pre-colonial times to the present. In the summer, the Museum offers children’s programs ranging from Archeology to Boat Building. With admission free for military personnel and children under the age of 12, this museum is a great place to bring the whole family.

Right down the road from The Watermen’s Museum is the Yorktown Victory Center, which is soon to be widely known as the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown. Newly renovated, this indoor-outdoor living museum incudes films, exhibits, re-created Continental Army encampments, and a re-created Revolution-era farm, all just a walk away from the Yorktown Battlefield, where General Cornwallis surrendered to George Washington on October 19, 1781.

Later, think about taking a Segway tour around Historic Yorktown through Patriot Tours. For the history buff, there is a 2 hour “Historical” tour covering the local history from the Colonial period through the Civil War and the picturesque landscape of the waterfront bluffs and historic Main Street for only $65 per person. If you are shorter on time or budget, there is also the 1 hour “Breeze” Tour for $39 per person. While your guide won’t quite be like Paul Blart: Mall Cop, they are professional and committed to giving you a great experience. Learn more about these two tours and the others that they offer here: http://www.patriottoursva.com/segway-tours-yorktown-virginia-patriot-tours.htm.

To finish your day trip to Yorktown, wander down the beaches, docks, shops, and restaurants along the scenic riverfront.

When you finally return to the Inn, rest your (now) tired feet as you relax into in an armchair… you’ll need your rest for more exploring tomorrow!
